MissionsMichelle Hoeppner

Missionary to Hong Kong:

Michelle Hoeppner serves the LCMS as the functional facilitator for Human Care as part of the Asia Management Team.  In December 2005, she moved from Kumming, China to Hong Kong, where she has been able to assume a more regional role with LCMS World Mission.  In June 2002, Michelle began working for LCMS World Mission as a full-time education and humanitarian aid worker engaged in social ministry in rural China, where she is the executive director of Concordia Welfare and Education Foundation, CWEF (formerly Society).  CWEF is engaged in poverty alleviation through education and service.  It uses social ministry to touch the lives of Chinese people and to link with various Christian organizations.  Through social ministry, CWEF is a reflection of God's love to the people in China.

MIchelle was born in Woodburn, Ind. Her parents are both Lutheran school-teachers.  In 1990, her family moved to Hong Kong, where she attended Hong Kong International School.  During high school, she developed an appreciation for the Chinese culture.  From 1994 to 1998, Michelle attended Wittenberg University, Ohio.  During her university years, she studied abroad in China and Dominican Republic.  In 1998, she graduated with a couble major in East Asian Studies and Spanish.  After graduation, she worked with LCMS World Mission as an English teacher in Qingdao, China, for one year.  From 2000 to 2002, she attended the Elliott School of Foreign Affairs at George Washington University (GWU).  While at GWU, she received a Freeman Foundation Grant to return to China and study in Beijing for one semester.  She graduated with a Master of Arts degree in International Development Studies.  Her concentration was Public Health and Educational Program Management.

Please pray for Michelle's health and safety during her many travels.  Praise God for all the good work He is doing through His churches in Asia through social ministry and outreach.  Pray for the development and interest of human care workers within our partner churches in Asia.  And finally, pray for discernment and direction from God about what projects will help show His love to the unreached.
