There have been many things happening since the approval by the voters on January 23, 2011, to proceed with the plans proposed by Brown Church development (“Brown”) to create more space for ministry here at Peace. Updates will be posted weekly and announced on the lower right hand corner of CONNECTION, the weekly update sheet distributed at weekly worship.

Building/Ministry Expansion Update-2/19/12
Today’s update is more of a “public service announcement”. It regards some do’s and don’ts of stacking our new chairs. If you ever help with this, please read. Thank you! When putting away our new chairs after worship, please keep the following things in mind:
1. There is no need to pre-stack chairs like before. Just put them on the carts one at a time.
2. Stack chairs from the front rather than the side. This gives you a straight shot and is MUCH easier!
3. Make sure chairs are stacked correctly before adding any more.
4. Only stack the carts about 25 chairs high.
5. When moving the chair carts, stand behind the chairs and push from the lower middle of the cart. Please take your time moving it so it doesn’t tip and squash any little kids.
6. We’ve found a few chairs with broken or loose flaps on the back. We have already contacted the manufacturer and they are working on a fix for the problem. If you find a chair with an issue, please do not put it on the cart. Leave it along the west wall of the life center instead and we will put it with the other chairs needing attention.
Thank you! Pastor Reiners.
Building/Ministry Expansion Update-2/12/12
I’d like to share a couple of plans from the Hospitality Team. First, in the near future we are going to introduce parking lot attendants as well as a traffic flow pattern through the west parking lot to help alleviate some of the congestion that happens just off the NW corner of the building. Signs will be put up and we will explain it in detail. We are also putting up signs to reserve 7 spots for our guests to use. Several more slots are for handicap parking. Yet, to free up even more room for guests and other folks, we invite all members to park in the new lot north of the river. It sends a welcoming message to people when this lot is full on Sunday and there are many empty spots available nearer the building. Please consider making this a habit if you are physically able, OK? Thank you!
Also on a Sunday in the near future, we are going to make a change in chair pick up after Contemporary worship. We the Praise Team strikes its final note and we immediately start picking up chairs, it sends the clear message to everyone, “hey, we’re done here and it’s time to go home”. For the sake of hospitality and to give ALL of us a chance to meet new folks (especially guests), we are going to dedicate a period of time (10-15 minutes) after worship to visiting before we pick up any chairs. Then whoever is left will all work together on this task. More details from Hospitality Team next week. Pastor Reiners
Building/Ministry Expansion Update-2/5/12
The building part of the expansion is winding down (hallelujah!). On Feb 14, we will have our final punch list walk through to look closely at the inside and outside of the building. So things should basically be all finished by the middle of February. The biggest thing left is probably a massive clean-up day (one more chance for lots of you to help out).
While the expansion part is winding down, the ministry part is gearing up! Upcoming events benefiting from improved facilities include the Sweet Heart Dinner on Feb 12 (today is the deadline to sign up for it), the Man Fest on April 1 (first time here in several years because we now have room!), and Confirmation Day on May 6 (OOOH will it be nice to have enough space for all of our guests!). Of course the Dedication Service is on March 18. Pastor Voelker will be our afternoon speaker (2:00 pm worship). Please mark that event on your calendar.
In preparation for that important event and for the use of this facility in general, the Hospitality Team has met twice now, working towards setting up an intentional Hospitality Ministry. This will involve LOTS, and I mean LOTS of folks in many different ways. More on this in next week’s update. For now, I ask you to please be open to serving in this ministry when the opportunity comes up. Pastor Reiners
Building/Ministry Expansion Update-1/29/12
Last Sunday I shared that on March 4 we will have new starting times for our two late worship services. Our Traditional worship will begin at 10:25 and our Contemporary worship will begin at 10:35. Our plan is to keep the liturgy very “lean” prior to the sermon in the Traditional worship and “pad” it a bit prior to the sermon in the Contemporary worship. Between this and the 10 minute difference in starting time, our intention is to make it possible for the sermon to fall a bit more in the middle of the service, AND for the order of service to be the same each week. No more sermon early one week and late the next. This will help worship flow better, and give staff, volunteers, and worshippers a more consistent routine for worship. It will also eliminate the need for separate bulletins for the two Traditional services, thus saving a little paper and a lot of work for Pat. We will keep publicizing this, but as always the best advertising is word of mouth. So, please pass this on to others. Thank you!
If you have questions about the ministry/building expansion, please contact either Pastor Reiners or Carl Eliason. If we don’t know the answer we’ll get it for you.
Building/Ministry Expansion Update-1/22/12
Congratulations to Mr. Koch Koch! After winning his individual heat in our Life Center Shop Vac Race series last Sunday, he then edged out Dr. Brant Luebbe and his son, Owen in the championship heat to take the overall title. It was a nail biter finish! Kudos to Mr. Brad Bills who took fourth place just three weeks after knee surgery, using a borrowed Shop Vac! Wow! His gutsy performance brought tears to the eyes of many spectators, myself included.
We will be having Shop Vac races again today starting at 1:00 pm. While we are here for those we will also vacuum/clean the West Addition so that it can be carpeted this coming week. Please bring your shop vac or regular vacuum and let’s have some fun. It won’t take more than an hour. There will be other tasks besides vacuuming too, ok?
Our Hospitality Team had their first meeting last Thursday to start setting this new ministry in motion. Watch for more details and please plan to be involved in the weeks ahead!
And finally, on March 4 we will have new starting times for our two late worship services. Our Traditional worship will begin at 10:25 and our Contemporary worship will begin at 10:35. More details behind this decision in next week’s update.
If you have questions about the ministry/building expansion, please contact either Pastor Reiners or Carl Eliason. If we don’t know the answer we’ll get it for you.
